But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Have you ever gone stir crazy while waiting for something to happen? The day you turn 16 and finally get to drive, high school graduation, the wedding day, that very long line at the grocery store with only two registers open, the doctor’s office, pay day, or for that little red light to turn green? Waiting can be so frustrating, can’t it? It can be fearful, it can be tiring, and honestly, it can sometimes just be downright painful. However, as frustrating as it can be, it is often necessary and for our good. God usually does His greatest work through us in the waiting.
As believers, we tend to forget this world is not about us. We like things done on our time, at our convenience, but that’s just not the way it was intended. Isaiah 55:8 tells us, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. God sees and knows what’s best for us and we must trust His ways.
So, what should we do while we wait? We should worship. Worship will redirect our focus. It will keep our attention on Christ and not ourselves. When we worship, we are brought to a beautiful place where we surrender, where we reflect the goodness of God, and trust His perfect ways. As we worship, we will be strengthened. We will learn to have faith instead of fear, to pray and not worry, to trust in place of doubt, to have hope over jealousy, to have patience rather than impatience, and to have contentment verses bitterness. We must keep our focus on Him. If we fix our eyes on Him and study Him, (while we wait) we will learn to be like Him. We will serve others, we will share the gospel, we will be thankful, we will sing praise, we will trust, WE WILL WORSHIP.
Lord, Thank you for Your word and for Your counsel. Help me to live each day with a grateful heart. Guide me with Your Holy Spirit to trust You and to serve You while I am waiting.
