The Book of Judges: Broken People, Faithful GodNew Series Continues Today Judges tells us of the time after Joshua, when the nation of Israel inherits the Promised Land. Unfortunately, it's not a very nice story, and the book of Judges contains some of the most brutally violent, bloody, and depraved texts in all of scripture. The people of Israel repeated disobey the Lord and stray from Him, and the results are disastrous and tragic! Yet as we study this great book, we discover that no sin, no failure, no despair, no brokenness is beyond the reach of God’s grace and compassion. In the midst of broken, sinful people, we find a FAITHFUL God full of grace and mercy! We find a God who forgives time after time because of His love for His people! I'm looking forward to rediscovering our faithful God among broken people in the book of Judges over the next few months at Byron City Church, and I hope you will join us on this journey! Today's Teaching (Jan 7, 2024)Judges 2: The Results of Disobedience (Part 2) What’s keeping us from inheriting the blessings of God? There's a ton of reasons we could give! While the reasons for our failures may vary, the root cause is the same. The failure to obey what God commands is always the result of failure to believe what He has promised. The Israelites failed to trust God and the results - seen in chapter 1 - are disastrous! The chapter serves as an example of what happens when we fail to believe the promises of God and trust the faithfulness of God! We should learn through Judges 1 to take hold of the promises of God and through them drive out the enemies that keep you from enjoying His presence and His provision. |
