Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Romans 12:2
Here’s something to think about…as Christian, we can either be a thermometer or a thermostat.
Some of us are thermometers - we conform to room temperature. We try to "be cool" and gravitate toward "what's hot." We look like the world. That is, we look like all of the non-Christians that they know. There really isn't anything about our lives that looks any different than the lives of anyone else in the world. For all intents and purposes, it appears that the gospel has not transformed our lives radically. In order to fit in, we will adjust our temperatures to blend in with any surrounding no matter the compromise.
But God wants us to be a thermostat. Rather than register the temperature like a thermometer, we are to set it! Our stand for Christ should set the stage for our relationships with others. Our love for Christ should be recognized the moment we walked into a room.
There should be something radically different about our lives that makes people take notice, and makes them want to have that which we have.
When this is the case, we are acting as a thermostat, setting the temperature all around us through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Don’t conform (as a thermometer), be transformed (like a thermostat). Don't be conformed, let your light shine so that others around you can be transformed through the very same gospel that has transformed your life.
Remember, the Jesus that does not transform your life really is not really Jesus at all.
